You do not want to meet your
lady, the first time, in her own home town! Make
that journey after you have
decided you have found the perfect girl, and it
is time to meet the family.

Not that Eastern Europe isn't
a beautiful place to visit...it is. However, it
isn't as easy as catching
a flight to Denver. You must, for most Republics,
arrange for a special Visa.
This can take much time and money. Some Republics
require a "Letter of Invitation",
from the woman, on Official Government
Letterhead before you can
apply for a Visa.
Unless your lady lives in Moscow,
Riga, Kiev or some other "TRULY" major
Commercial City (Warsaw, Prague,
Budapest, etc) you are not going to fly into
town to see her...there is
no airport! Even if your lady lives in a city with
an airport...your flight might
arrive on time. However, it is common for
flights "OUT" to be canceled
without notice.
No problem, just fly to Paris
and ride Eurorail, Right? "WRONG"!!! Eurorail
does not go into Eastern Europe.
You will ride a train, but it will be within
the Republic you flew into
or have additional Visas to enter. O.K. you have
spent the time and money for
a Visa or two. You fly into a major city. Now
you use your best Russian
language skills to get transportation for you and
your luggage (don't take your
eyes off of your luggage) to the train
station... and you are on
your way to your destination.
If there is a Hotel in the
town you are going to...you can count on a high
nightly rate...poor accommodations
and services...no air conditioning, and
maybe no hot water. (bring
your own toilet paper) If there is no Hotel, your
lady will likely arrange for
you to rent small apartment or room in a
Boarding House. You will hope
she is a good cook, because you do not want
restaurant food...and don't
drink the water.
Be certain you have plenty
of cash! You will not find many places to use a
credit card (if any). Do not
plan on calling home. Even with a great Calling
Card, the first minute can
cost $10 or more. You will not need much money for
entertainment...there is little
available as you know it.
O.K. you are a real man. You
have spent the time and money to make your way
half way around the world
to meet this special woman. However, she doesn't
look anything like her pictures...or
your personalities "Clash like a Train
Wreck." Fortunately, Vodka
is cheap and there is plenty of it.
At this point of the story
you are probably asking yourself, "is a woman from
the Former Soviet Union
worth the trouble?" "YES"!!! Not only are they some
of the most beautiful women
in the world...they have strong character,
devotion, and intelligence.
"They believe a man should be a man...and a woman
should be a woman!" They believe
in being treated like a lady...not one of
the boys.
